Royal Seal of Approval for North Lanarkshire Schools

Only a few weeks ago the youngsters of North Lanarkshire Schools brought the concourse at New York’s Grand Central Station to a halt and yesterday they were in the big time again giving a command performance in front of HM The Queen.

The occasion was the opening of a new facility at Greenfaulds High School in Cumbernauld, part of the North Lanarkshire catchment area.

Her Majesty looked delighted as the boys and girls, led by P/M Ross Cowan, played some stirring melodies to the delight of everyone present.

Said P/M Cowan; ‘We played for the Queen and then headed straight away to Inverness for the European Pipe Band Championships.

‘ The Queen was sent a letter by the grandmother of three brothers who play in the band, Lachlan, Callum and Fergus Kyle. The Queen read out the letter and made a special mention of the headmaster of the school.

‘It has been a successful year for the band. Following the trip to NYC the band was crowned British Champions at Paisley as well as playing on the BBC’s ‘Pipeline’ programme and at the launch of the Piping Live festival.’

‘There is a small video from today on the Royal Family’s Twitter feed.’
