Manorcunningham Celebrate Successful Year and Are Now Recruiting

John Kelly reports….After a year out in 2016, Manorcunningham Pipe Band made a welcome return to the Grade 2 pipe band competition arena in 2017 picking up an amazing 41 trophies in a most successful year.

To celebrate this success the band held a celebratory dinner in the Arena 7 Restaurant, Letterkenny on Saturday 7th October.  Earlier in the day the band members gathered in the band’s practice hall in Manorcunningham village for what will no doubt be a most historic photograph (above). Included in the picture are Pipe Major Gordon Carson (left in back row), Pipe Sergeant William Black (right in back row) and Drum Sergeant Alan Laird (left in front row).

Drew Bingham (RSPBANI Band Steward) then presented a medal to each band member as a memento of the band being crowned 2017 Grade 2 All-Ireland Champions at the All-Ireland Pipe Band Championships at Lurgan last July.

Since reforming for the 2017 pipe band season, the band’s most notable Grade 2 wins have been: All-Ireland Champions, Fourth at the United Kingdom at Stormont, Sixth at the Worlds at Glasgow (Best Grade 2 band from Ireland), British Champion Drum Corps, All-Ireland champion Drum Corps Ulster Champion Drum Corps and Northern Ireland Champion of Champions Drum Corps.
