Important New Recording for PP Audio Archive

Added to the growing PP Audio Archive today is a recording of Iain Speirs’ actual winning performance in the 2007 Northern Meeting Gold Medal competition.

Iain’s tune is Lady Margaret MacDonald’s Salute and with it he completed his set of Gold Medals, having taken the Oban equivalent with the King’s Taxes in 2002.

Since then Iain has become one of our most sensitive and cultured interpreters of ceol mor, winning all the top awards available to him, including the Clasp at Inverness and the Senior Piobaireachd at Oban.

Iain is pictured above with his father Tom, the respected teacher and solo piping judge. In his day Tom too was a champion piper winning the Gold Medal at Inverness in 1980 with the Battle of Bealach nam Brog.

Listen to Iain’s tune here and check out the full lists of Gold Medallists here.

Recital-Poster-Mar-2016Still on the father and son tack, we have news of what is sure to be a wonderful evening of piping at Tulloch Castle, Dingwall, later this month.

The pipers are Angus MacColls Senior and Junior, and the date is March 25. The promoters, Friends of the Lewis & Harris Piping Society and Inverness Piping Society, have generously agreed to donate all proceeds from the evening to the Donald MacLeod Memorial competition to be held in Stornoway on April 8 (see banner ad. above).

The recital time is 7.30 for 8pm with tickets at the door. Further information from Donald Smith on 01463-230439. Get along and support this very worthwhile evening if you can; a chance to catch the brilliant Angus Snr. and his very talented son.
