Fred Frandsen, USA: ‘Just got it; love it; thanks!’

Peter K. MacLeod of the 48th Highlanders Pipes and Drums Association, Toronto has sen this:

‘Robert, the attached photo [up top] was given to the 48th Pipes and Drums Association and appeared in our Fall 2015 Newsletter.  The picture was submitted by Ken Wells, as he was in this class (sitting third from the right on Willie Ross’s left if that makes any sense).  Ken was a piper with the 48th in the later years of the war [September 1945] and was sent to the Castle for added tuition.  Ken continued as a piper with the 48th well into the 1970s and at the age of 94 is the oldest 48th piper alive today—and he is also known as the ‘silver fox’.  He is still active, in fact a ‘snow bird’ just now in Florida.
‘Ken mentioned to me that in the photo was a piper named Nobel who was or became the Pipe Major of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada and who met a tragic death in a street car crash in Toronto, 1946, (which also claimed other Argyll members who were in Toronto for a function).

‘Always enjoy reading the Piping Press and keeping up what is going on in the vast world of piping and pipe bands.’

Grateful for the pic and info Peter; many thanks. Can anyone ID any of the pipers for us? Would be of interest.

We have one more video on Alasdair Gillies and it is of the tribute to him paid by the Pipes & Drums of the Queens Own Highlanders Association, P/M Andy Venters, at the Northern Meeting in 2011:

I hear that Wm Sinclair & Sons, recent sponsors of the South Florida Pipe & Drum Academy, are also to sponsor the ‘Pipe Major’s Wheel of Fortune’ contest at Danderhall Miners Club on Feb 13 (see ad. opposite for details).
