Famous Pipers: John D. Burgess/ Calum Campbell Concert

calum bookA concert is being held in Balivanich Hall, Benbecula, tomorrow night to celebrate the launch of a book of music ‘Ceol Chaluim’ by the late piper Calum Campbell. Calum died along with other members of his family in a tragic drowning accident a few years back during a violent winter storm. The music starts at 7.30pm and the show features ‘a host of local pipers and musicians including Sgiol Lionacleit and Lews Castle College’.

The blurb on the book reads: ‘The hurricane which hit the Hebrides in early January 2005 remains associated, in many people’s memory of the event, with the tragic loss of life of Calum Campbell and his daughter and her family. Calum Campbell was an accomplished piper and tutor and a prolific composer. This book contains some 50 previously unpublished tunes and has been edited by Niall Campbell and Catriona Garbutt, his son and sister respectively.’ Buy the book here.
