CPA Appeal re Re-Scheduled Roseneath/ Sound Archive Additions

Roseneath Games piping competitions, cancelled during the summer following foul weather, have been re-scheduled for October 18, Hermitage Academy, Helensburgh at 10am.

The Competing Pipers’ Association today makes an appeal to its members to support the organisers in their hard work re-organising things by making sure the piping competitions have healthy entries.

CPA Secretary Donald MacLeod: ‘Piping Convenor Helen Campbell has gone out of her way to make this happen and we need to make sure it is supported.

‘For the avoidance of doubt, and to avoid any confusion, there will be a new draw. So even if you entered back in July (and for anyone who wants to enter now) you have to send an email to Helen Campbell to confirm entry to the October event. Closing date is 10th October. Payment can be made on the day for any new entries. Contact address is: campbell.crockett@live.co.uk

‘Please do support this event. The organisers have gone out of their way to ensure the piping has been rescheduled and it should be a good day. We’ll post the draw in the week running up to Sunday 18th. The events will be as previously planned, ie separate A/P, B and C grade events.’

Still with solo piping, four new piobaireachd have been added to the PP Audio Archive. They are Company’s Lament, Glengarry’s Lament, Lament for Alastair Dearg MacDonnell of Glengarry and MacIntosh’s Banner. All are played by Robert Wallace in full on the bagpipe. To remind you: multiple tracks by the same piper are arranged in playlists meaning that each track will play in alphabetical order, one after the other. To hear individual tracks , click on the artist’s name.

For pipe band enthusiasts, and devotees of piping history, there is a remarkable recording of Govan Police Pipe Band (pictured top) recorded in the early 1900s and probably the first ever recording made of a pipe band. Stay tuned for more exciting additions to the archive in the near future.

These recordings and all the other material on Piping Press is brought to you free of charge thanks to our advertisers and the ppresshop. Please help us maintain this free use by continuing your support for these high quality companies and our shop.
