Today, in the latest of our ‘Famous Pipers‘ features, we begin a major series looking back at the life of probably the greatest competitive piper of all time, Donald MacPherson. Running over several excerpts the series will give readers an insight into the maestro’s thinking and performance regime.
He is pictured above in the 1980s after winning the prestigious Scotway competition held for a number of years in the City Chambers, Glasgow. This competition was styled along the lines of the Glenfiddich and considered by many, given that Donald played in the former and not the latter, just as prestigious. Such was his reputation.
Read the first instalment here and stay tuned for more on the master piper.
Dunbar pipe band contest underway on Scotland’s east coast in very blustery, cold conditions. First results here.
