Silver Chanter 2015, Dunvegan Castle, Isle of Skye

Details of this year’s Silver Chanter Recital/ Competition have been announced. Pipers invited are William Geddes, Douglas Murray, Roderick MacLeod, Stuart Liddell, Iain Speirs and Callum Beaumont. They have all accepted.

Cailean Maclean, Chairman of the Skye Piping Society, is now the main organiser and takes over from Mrs Emily MacDonald. The competition takes place on Wednesday 5th August in the historic drawing-room at Dunvegan Castle, seat of Clan Macleod. The judge is Iain Murdo Morrison, Lewis. Each piper is asked to play one of the classic MacCrimmon piobaireachd.


Fear an taighe will be an Iain Mclean from Braes (Skye) who now lives in Edinburgh. Mr McLean has a background of Gaelic singers and pipers in his family and is a piping aficionado.

A new website is being set through which tickets will be sold, though some will be retained for sale by postal application. Cailean said: ‘We are all looking forward to this year’s event and in closing the Society would like to pay tribute to Emily and her work in running the competition so well for so many years.
