Piping in the 1930s/ Stuart Easton Recital

More interesting history today with another look back at some of the big names in the 1930s. The old chestnut of needing Gaelic to play piobaireachd is raised, and mention is made of some of the great names of the past. Read here.

Queensland Pipers Society have sent out a circular to remind everyone that top NZ piper Stuart Easton is in recital at Bulimba Bowling Club tonight. The blurb reads:  ‘Fresh from his overall win at the New Zealand Solo Piping Championships at the Hawkes Bay Gathering, come and hear this outstanding piper show his great musical talent and skill. Stuart is Pipe Sergeant of the leading New Zealand Pipe Band, Manawatu Scottish and has a string of other solo successes under his belt, including New Zealand Gold Medal, New Zealand Silver Chanter, New Zealand Former Winners Clasp, New Zealand Invitational Targe & Claidhmor, Commun Na Piobaireachd, Maclean Gold Medal, Australasian Invitational Piping final, Overall Senior Piping at the RU Brown contest in Adelaide, Lorient, Glenisla, Nairn, Cowal, Birnam and Inverness.’
