Twice each summer the most coveted prize in piping is awarded at the major gatherings at Oban and Inverness. That prize is the Highland Society of London’s Gold Medal.
Today we take it for granted that the medal will appear as a matter of course and that the competition for it will continue for the foreseeable future. But who are the people who make this happen each year? Who are the Highland Society of London?
We believe it is time pipers understood more about their charitable endeavours and contribution to piping, and today, courtesy of the Society’s Mr Angus Nicol, we publish the first instalment of a detailed account of their history and achievements since its founding in 1782. Read it here.
