City of Adelaide Need Drummer/ CoP Cancel New England School

The College of Piping has cancelled its New England School for 2015 due to ‘lack of interest’. The school has been running at various venues in the north-east US for the past five years with the 2014 camp at the beautiful Endicott College in Massachusetts considered an outstanding success.

Former Principal Robert Wallace, who inaugurated the school in 2010, said it was disappointing that after so much hard work in establishing it, it had now ended.  ‘There is a need for top class tuition in the area,’ he added.

P/M Brett Tidswell has sent this from South Australia: ‘The City of Adelaide Pipe Band is offering an exciting opportunity to apply for leadership of its drum corps and to be a part of realising our ambitious future plans, as well as continuing a legacy of success, creativity and enjoyment.

‘The City of Adelaide Pipe Band is South Australia’s premier pipe band and has been since forming in 1991. The intention was to create an enjoyable, competitive pipe band to represent the state in high-level competition and public performances both locally, interstate and overseas. Despite the bands relatively short history, the band has experienced a lot of success – 2 Australian Pipe Band Championships, 4 Victorian Pipe Band Championships, and 19 South Australian Pipe Band Championships.

‘The city of Adelaide itself is a vibrant hub of culture and arts, buzzing with life, boasting great food and wine at more than 700 restaurants cafés and pubs, great retail therapy and the ‘cultural boulevard’ of North Terrace. It is home to some of Australia’s best museums and the South Australian Art Gallery. Everything is so close in Adelaide, with the beach just 20 minutes by tram from the city centre, and many of the state’s regions within two hours’ drive away. South Australia is considered Australia’s premier wine-making state.

‘With a capital voted ‘most liveable city in the world’ and framed by 3,800 kilometres of coastline, South Australia offers the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation.

‘The plan is to be a force in the top grade and to contend for major titles in Australia and also abroad,’ says Pipe Sergeant Andy Fuller (ex-Victoria Police). ‘We’ve been to the top in this country and we have a plan and strong desire to be there again. We are also a performance band, with a focus on community engagement and the promotion of pipe bands. We have a particular emphasis on teaching piping and drumming to young people.’ He goes on to say ‘Our next Leading Side will have met particular criterion that management has identified as being critical to the band’s needs. It won’t simply be about having a good set of hands and some Gr1 experience. It is also a set of personal skills and traits that we’re looking for – a package. Our new Leading Side will also be someone who is in for the long-term and focused on outcomes, and who has a ‘team first’ attitude.’

All applications and enquiries can be emailed to the Band President, Mr. David Robertson.
