Uist & Barra Announcement

U&B Piping Convenor John Angus Smith has sent this: ‘I thought the attached notice for the 2015 Uist & Barra Invitational Piping Competition would be of interest. Fourteen of the best UK-based pipers in the world have been invited to compete in each event, with the invitation list drawn from major prize winners in 2014. The competition will be held at the College of Piping, Glasgow, on 7th March from 9am. The judges for all three competitions will be Iain MacFadyen, Willie Morrison and Stuart Samson. We hope to stream the event online, and further details will be included on our Facebook page when this is confirmed.

‘On behalf of the Glasgow Uist & Barra Association, we are looking forward to an excellent day’s piping.’
As readers can see from the above photograph, the pipers will be vying for some splendid trophies including the Finlay MacKenzie Challenge trophy for overall champion and the Glasgow Highland Club Medal (on Gordon’s lapel) for ceol mor champion.
The Uist & Barra is the first major professional competition of the year on the Scottish circuit, but despite this, the standard of playing is always extremely high as the last few years have attested.
Here is Gordon’s MSR from last year:

We are sure this year’s competition will live up to that standard so please go along for a listen if you can manage. If not, the live stream will allow you to hear superb playing  wherever you are in the world. Here is the 2015 poster:U & B Piping Poster 2015_Final
