This morning we publish a very interesting letter from solo piping adjudicator Archie Maclean, Inverness. It’s about P/M Peter Bain, subject of our Famous Pipers column a few days ago. P/M Bain was a colleague of Archie’s father in the 1st Battalion Scots Guards. The photographs alone make it an important piece of piping and military history and we are grateful to Mr Maclean for permission to publish them.
Also on the Letters page is a request from a reader in the US for a tune Kemmel Hill which featured in the recent WW1 concert. We are doing our best to find him a copy of the music.
Don’t forget, if you have something you feel of interest to the wider piping and pipe band community then please email firstname.lastname@example.org and share it with out many thousands of readers worldwide.
Apropos this coming summer of pipe band contests, don’t forget to download your free copy of Pipe Band magazine which has all the dates for 2015 courtesy the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association. On the solo front we publish a Guide to the Games courtesy the Scottish Highland Games Association, the governing body of traditional Highland games in Scotland. Get those diaries out!
