John said, ‘Many police officers from Edinburgh City, Leith, the Lothians and Border county forces, some of whom who were pipers and drummers served in World War One and World War Two, and other conflicts up to the present day. The cheque is given to recognise their sacrifice and the strong link that was forged between our police pipe band and Army piping and drumming.’

The handover ceremony took place in front of the Pipers’ Memorial at Inchdrewer House unveiled a couple of years ago and which has since become a focal point for those who wish to remember fallen pipers and their sacrifice. Drummers are not forgotten and have their own memorial statue:
