Lothian & Borders Pipe Band Help HM Forces

news - cheque for army fundThe remaining funds from the now defunct Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band have been donated to the Army School of Piping and Highland Drumming’s Memorial Fund. PC John Fraser, based at Edinburgh’s Oxgangs police station and former Pipe Sergeant of the Lothian and Borders band, presented Captain Gordon Rowan and Pipe Major Scott Methven with a cheque for£4000 at Inchdrewer House towards the Fund.

John said, ‘Many police officers from Edinburgh City, Leith, the Lothians and Border county forces, some of whom who were pipers and drummers served in World War One and World War Two, and other conflicts up to the present day. The cheque is given to recognise their sacrifice and the strong link that was forged between our police pipe band and Army piping and drumming.’

Receiving the cheque Captain Gordon Rowan said, ‘This is a fantastic boost towards our Memorial Fund and we cannot thank all the past band members enough for this generous donation.We continue to fund raise and donations are gratefully received through our ‘Justgiving’ link: https://www.justgiving.com/armyschoolofpiping/.
The handover ceremony took place in front of the Pipers’ Memorial at Inchdrewer House unveiled a couple of years ago and which has since become a focal point for those who wish to remember fallen pipers and their sacrifice.
