Northern Meeting Day 1 (complete) – Douglas at the Double!

IMG_1804-0 dougie and medalDouglas Murray completed a historic double when he added the Northern Meeting Gold Medal to the first he secured only a week ago at Oban. He now joins a select band of pipers to achieve this notable success: Willie Lawrie (1910), George Yardley (1911), John MacDonald, South Uist, (1926), Bob Nicol (1930), John Burgess (1950), William MacDonald, Inverness (1955), DR MacLennan (1956), Hector MacFadyen (1964), Andrew Wright (1970), and John Cairns (1999). The judges described Douglas’s performance as ‘outstanding’ and this was the view of most of the audience as they filed out of the main auditorium at Eden Court after nine hours of intense listening. Douglas said: ‘I can’t believe this success. It is something you dream about. Everyone has been very complimentary and I am very grateful to them all.’
